TCPR signs letter on direct wine shipment
Today, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research submitted a letter to Congress in conjunction with 41 other organizations expressing concern about potential direct wine shipment regulations. The letter addresses the Comprehensive Alcohol Regulatory Effectiveness Act, which would allow states to impose regulations on direct-to-consumer shipping of wine. Read the coalition letter here. The Tennessee legislature recently revised state law to comply with a Supreme Court decision prohibiting the discrimination between in-state and out-of-state wineries. Last year, the state also liberated its wine laws, allowing Tennesseans to purchase wine and have it shipped directly to them. The Tennessee Center for Policy Research encouraged these changes in a 2009 publication, Drunk with Power and in live testimony before a House subcommittee.
