Director of Marketing & Communications

The Beacon Center of Tennessee is currently seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications.

The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for overseeing all Beacon Center public relations efforts; promoting the Center’s research and educational products across all platforms; expanding the Center’s core competencies beyond media relations to include effective, broad-based marketing; and maximizing and reinforcing the Beacon Center brand through all products and communications. Description:

  • Builds and manages the marketing and communications arm of the Beacon Center
  • Works directly with the CEO to develop and execute marketing and communications strategic plan
  • Identifies and targets key audiences for effective messaging goals and marketing campaigns
  • Coordinates with the CEO and director of policy to develop appropriate messaging for all policy initiatives
  • Executes all planned and actual promotional campaigns for policy initiatives and publications
  • Invents new ways to market liberty to the masses, actively breaking stereotypes about those who love freedom and free markets
  • Conducts media interviews within realm of expertise, including frequent radio, television, and print interviews
  • Writes articles within realm of expertise
  • Reviews and edits all external communications issued by the Center
  • Represents the Center with external audiences
  • Administers ad placements, including online ads, paid, and exchange ads
  • Executes the Center’s web and social media presence on a daily basis
  • Drafts the monthly “Tennessee Policy Snapshot” and other communications highlighting the Center’s achievements and policy initiatives to supporters
  • Enhances the Center’s e-marketing capabilities and effectiveness, including expanding and brokering mailing lists of subscribers, as well as monitoring and improving e-campaign results
  • Works with other members of the Center’s team to advance their priorities, including assisting the policy and development staff to ensure that the Center’s brand is maintained through all communications
  • Implements robust measurement of all marketing and communications efforts

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 3-5 years of marketing and/or communications experience in a nonprofit, political, corporate, or agency setting
  • Marketing expertise that extends beyond media relations
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic marketing and communications plans
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding of public policy and knowledge of political processes
  • Affinity for liberty and free market principles
  • Ability to “inspire beyond the choir” to reach new audiences to advance the Center’s mission
  • Tennessee-specific policy knowledge, think tank experience, and news media contacts are all pluses
