Justin’s choice for Pork of the Year: Disgraced former Nashville mayor Megan Barry
In the “you can’t make this stuff up” category, the clear winner is Nashville’s former mayor-turned-felon Megan Barry. Barry pled guilty to theft after spending taxpayer money to further an affair with her chief of security.
Ron’s choice for Pork of the Year: ServiceMaster’s $5.5 million move down the street
The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development gave ServiceMaster $5.5 million to aid in the move across town, despite knowing that ServiceMaster would not create a single job in exchange for the grant money.
Mark’s choice for Pork of the Year: AllianceBerstein’s mysterious amount of money to move from Wall Street to Broadway
In records released by the state, it actually blacked out all of the information on the estimated tax incentives for AllianceBernstein, insulting taxpayers by not even disclosing how much money we are involuntarily “investing” in this Wall Street firm.
Stephanie’s choice for Pork of the Year: the University of Tennessee paying people not to come to work
After buying out a handful of employee contracts in recent years, UT should consider making better hires so taxpayers won’t continue paying for their mistakes.
